Hand Crafted Food
Café Woodworks was founded by David Maclaren AO more than 25 years ago, to enrich the experience of visitors to his beloved Bungendore Wood Works Gallery. David believed that art, music and good food belong together — a natural pairing for conversation, community, and time well spent.
As the Gallery grew, the café grew with it. The walls became part of the artistic showcase, and live music and events helped transform a small rural village into a vibrant cultural destination.
In 2017, David handed the café reins to Richard Graham (proprietor of The Carrington Inn). Together through 2018–2019, David and Richard built on each other’s strengths and helped the café and gallery reach their peak performances.
When COVID arrived in March 2020, the team moved fast. In 21 days, a storeroom was transformed to become our street-facing Express window — keeping coffee, meals and social connections flowing to the community when it mattered most.
The years after COVID changed the landscape for small business everywhere, and in July 2025 David closed the Gallery. With its closure, the café suddenly found itself without the artworks that had long shaped the space — and we began the process of discovering who is Café Woodworks when there is no Wood Works Gallery.
That discovery is ongoing, but when it is fully revealed it will stay true to what David built and entrusted to us: warm hospitality, great coffee, good value, and a year-round comfortable place Bungendore can call its own.
So, if we’re not quite what we were before, and not quite what we’re yet going to be, we’re truly grateful for your patience and patronage while we sort that out.

Our vast, seasonal menu offers some of the regions best fresh produce; hand-crafted by our chefs and served by our team of friendly and accommodating wait staff.

Local Coffee
Café Woodworks prides itself on a good cup of coffee. Black Mountain Coffee is the current bean we use. The smooth and aromatic bean creates a softer flavour that is not only enjoyed by locals but by tourists and visitors who are just popping in.
Desserts
Our desserts are made freshly in house or locally. We have scones and muffins baked daily as well a large variety of cakes and tarts. We also have gluten free and lactose free options available.
Licensed & BYO
We are licensed and have a great selection of local and interstate wines, beers and ciders available.
You may also bring your wine for a corkage fee of $5 per bottle.
Functions & Catering
Café Woodworks is available to host your next function. Whether that be a birthday, christmas party or any special event we can look after you.
